Meristemmed Vs. Unmeristemmed Examples from an Independant Study.

The following Sweetpotatoes were obtained from various local fields in an independant study done by the local Agricultural Extention Office to demonstarate the value of Meristemming and using clean seed. The  diseases represented in the assortment below before meristemming are:

Pox,  Fuserium,  Feathery Mottle,  Scurf, Wire Worm damage, Russet Crack, Color Banding, Deep Lenticles and Large Veins(as a result of diseases), Nematode damage and other diseases inherited from the previous generations and from the soil due to poor farming practices.

By Meristemming these random samples, the inherited diseases as well as those picked up from infected fields were removed.  The new generation is dramatically more appealing in size and appearance. When these clean sweetpotatoes are planted in a properly fumigated/treated or otherwise clean field, the grower can be assured of increased size and marked improvement in appearance, increased plant production, larger yields of market quality produce and greatly reduced post-harvest field waste.

Different varieties of sweetpotatoes shown before and after Meristemming.
